We recently finished reading through The Hobbit (for the second time) with the boys! And we’ve started a new journey into the wardrobe with Lucy, Peter, Susan, and Edmund…
We’re borrowing Matthias’ parents copies of the Narnia series while we look for our favorite version to purchase. I really didn’t find any beautiful sets for sale online… that surprised me. But the paperback style series is what I grew up with too, so we’ll appreciate it for it’s memory-value.
We moved up the boys bedtime routine at the beginning of the summer. We start putting Eliot & Emerson down around 6:45. We read our books in the dark (Matthias wears a head-lamp or uses a flashlight), and we try to be out of their bedroom by 7:30 or 7:45 so they can fall asleep.
This is very different than our previous routine… We wouldn’t even begin bed time until 8:30 or 9. I was desperately needing more evening time with Matthias, and he was totally on board with moving bedtime earlier. It’s been awesome.
It helps that they’re exhausted from playing in the heat during the day. The only downside is how bright it is when we’re putting them to bed. That’s why we do their bedtime routine (including books) in the dark, in their blacked-out room. I feel like it gives them some time to adjust before we leave them to fall asleep.
